Midsummer – the longest day – the Summer Solstice falls at 17:16 GMT today.

Here in Britain people traditionally mark the occasion by traveling to a group of prehistoric standing stones in Wiltshire with a view to getting arrested and possibly beaten up, just as their pagan ancestors did before them. These days those of us who can’t make it down there just read about it on Twitter and tut in solidarity, bathed  in Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Radiation rather than the blessed rays of the Sun God.
