The people at Yunzii very kindly sent me one of their great looking KC84 SP-Red keyboards to try out.

The KC84 SP-Red is an 84 / 75% key wired (standard USB C) keyboard with multi-coloured RGB backlight. The sculpted red, white and black keycaps are Dye-Sub PBT, which means that they feel good and will last a long time.

Of course, you get all your usual flashy lighting effects, and you can customise these, and macros, by downloading the drivers from yunzii.com/pages/software I, personally, always favour a solid, single colour backlight, and a solid red or blue looks especially cool, and very useable, with the red, white, and black colour scheme of the board.

The KC84 SP-Red is another hot-swappable board, meaning that you can change switches easily without soldering. It comes with a choice of Gateron Red, Blue, Brown or Black switches already installed. This is my only real complaint about the KC84 SP-Red which I tried out; it came with Gateron Black (silent/linear) switches, which I really do not like the feel of. I’d have much-preferred Browns, but that’s just my personal preference rather than any kind of complaint about the board itself.

All in all the KC84 SP-Red is a really good looking, solid keyboard which has just about every basic feature you could possibly want straight out of the box.  It feels like it would be a perfect starter board for anyone wanting to get into mechanical keyboards – maybe kitting out a gaming room for the first time, or setting up a little corner office, or something similar. Definitely a great gift idea for an awkward-to-buy-for young teen who enjoys gaming.

The KC84 SP-Red is currently $95 USD on the Yunzii website

Also available is the KC84 SP-Black, which is the same board but with a black case, instead of a red one.
