Review: Terraflare Pro keyboard from Redragon

Redragon have very kindly sent me one of their Terraflare Pro keyboards to try out.

The Terraflare Pro is a 104 key / 100% keyboard with three modes of connectivity: Bluetooth, USB-C, and 2.4Ghz wireless. PC and Mac modes can be easily switched with a two-position switch at the back of the board. A 4000 mAh on-board battery gives you plenty of power for wireless use. I’ve already seen a few people commenting online about the long battery life, so that’s coming straight from the users. It’s US International keyboard layout only.

Cadbury's Dairy Milk bar

The Terraflare Pro‘s rich Purple & White colour-scheme immediately reminded me of a classic Cadbury’s Daily Milk bar. So much so, in fact, that I set the backlights to a golden yellow, just because that felt right. Admittedly, however, that made the central white keys too hard to read, so I did switch to a lavender purple pretty quickly. There is also a Blue & White colourway option, just so you know.

It has a pair of flip-down single-position feet for angle adjustment, and the body of the board is plastic (white on the bottom, purple on the top).

The Terraflare Pro has RGB backlights with 15 onboard pre-set patterns and the option to adjust brightness, speed, and colour. All of the rounded PBT keycaps have transparent characters, allowing the backlights to shine through. It’s a good-looking board, and the lights do feel like a part of its aesthetic as opposed to just added on.

The backlights can be controlled via the multi-use knob on the upper right of the board. This functions as a volume control by default, but clicking it allows you to scroll through options on the Terraflare Pro‘s 1.41″ TFT LCD screen. You can also set the on-screen time and date, and choose to display a GIF of your choice instead of the info screen. Screens have been a feature of boards for a good few years now, but this is one of the first times I’ve felt it’s actually making things easier for the user as opposed to just being a flashy add-on.

The Terraflare Pro comes loaded with Linear Mint Mambo Switches (hot-swappable, of course), which are chocolatey smooth to type on. It also comes equipped with five layers of sound dampening: 3.5mm PO foam, IXPE switch foam, a PET sound pad, bottom socket foam, a silicone bottom pad and a silicone gasket. It feels and sounds wonderful to work on, and there is practically zero sound transference onto the desktop.

The Terraflare Pro feels like quite a luxurious board. It’s full-size, and it weighs 1.35 kg, so maybe it’s a little on the large side to be carrying around with you for on-the-go use. The Purple & White colour scheme is pretty eye-catching, but it doesn’t feel glaring or massively OTT. It’s a very comfortable, pleasant-to-use board, which just feels immediately good to work on. There was absolutely no “getting used to” time with this one at all. Recommended for everyone except people who prefer a smaller, more compact layout, and for those who don’t like purple.

The Terraflare Pro is available to order directly from Redragon for £57.00 GBP / $76.99 USD
